IELTS ESSAY WRITING:

Some people believe that entertainers are paid too much but their impact on society is negative, while others disagree and say that they deserve the money they make because of their positive effects on others. Discuss both the views and your opinion.

BAND 7 SAMPLE ANSWER:

The entertainment industry has grown in importance in recent times whereby the entertainers enjoy the privilege of earning high amounts though their societal influence is highly negative. Some sections are in discord with this view and reckon that their earnings are justifiable since they affect the public positively. This essay will elucidate both the facets of this argument and voice my opinion.

Entertainment starts from pictures, music, modeling, sports, and even comedy is not an exception to this. The professionals working in these industries, at first, strive hard to become public figures sacrificing a lot to acquire the position they have in society today. On top of that, many professionals of these areas inspire the viewers constantly by their actions and orient the youth on the right path so that they don't go astray. To exemplify, Aamir khan, a well-known actor, recently hosted a television show named Satyamev jayate which reflects the real picture of society and prevalent evils in front of people and motivates them to work for the welfare for others. Hence, they deserve to be paid what they are paid off.

Contrarily, there is no denying the fact that this industry has its negative face as well. To start with, a number of movies can be enumerated which draw widespread criticism and public outrage as instead of acting as a source of moral lessons, they promoted fictional violence and triggered a criminal mindset among the public especially youth. These actions of entertainers are strongly condemned by people and the argument that they should not be paid astronomical amounts for such derogatory content is justified. Apart from this, controversies and heated debates, particularly those inextricably linked with religion and historical subjects are denigrated by the audience as communal riots and frictions are the primary results of such contentious issues. Hence, this industry doesn't deserve the payment and popularity it has been subjected to.

As per my perspective, though entertainers' negative impact cannot be overlooked still the positive influence far outweighs this facet of theirs'. Many nations are recognized at a worldwide level just because of these entertainers as their fame wins laurels for a nation which acts as a source of exhortation for the public. Not only this, but several comedians are also helping people to get rid of certain mental problems they are suffering from as laughter is considered as the best medicine. This contribution on their part fully justifies the high earnings they make.

As such, it can be concluded that the entertainment industry influences the public both positively and negatively but I side with the stance of the former aspect as this holds more water than the latter. Henceforth, there is nothing wrong if the entertainers are provided with astronomical payments as they worth it.

BAND 8 SAMPLE ANSWER:

The earnings of entertainers have been the subject of heated debate wherein they are firmly advocated by a host of progressives owing to the positive impact they cast on public, on the other hand, certain sections hold the conviction that their handsome earning are highly unjustified since they have shaped the societal environment negatively. Both the statements are explicated ahead including the contention I harbor.

Commencing with the positive facet, people are seduced by entertainment which embellishes life as it can provide an escape from not so glamorous reality. People may escape in the adventures of entertainers or identify with a captivating portrayal of life they wish they had. Real-life almost seems dull by comparison to the "reality" created in the entertainment realm. Thus, apart from bringing pleasure and delight to an audience, it redirects our value system. This positive contribution can not be a matter of ignorance before becoming strongly decisive about the earnings these professionals make.

However, the question arises why the negative entertainment is so much a part of our culture despite its ability to impact the youth positively in the long term. This is primarily because many entertainers depict desensitized sex, murder, violent crimes etcetera which has second-guessed integrity, spiritual and moral values. If left alone, it can rob the next generation of any fundamental values period and these arguments are strong enough to justify the stated criticism of people for not paying them too much just for influencing the society adversely.

As far as my ideology is concerned, though entertainers are considered as people who incorporate immorality and unscrupulous attitude in society still the ability to pass on the baton of character, and integrity is within our control. People still can do their parts to enrich the future being not affected by the downsides, taking a positive motivation from the upsides. This brings the justification that these professionals deserve to be paid higher amounts.

At last, I have drawn the conclusion that entertainers are influencing the lives of people more in positive than in a negative way and this has, no doubt, nothing to do with the earnings they make. Thus, the earnings they are entitled to are justified and should not be subjected to any criticism.
