  WHAT AN OVERVIEW IS ????

An overview is also referred to as an overall summary of report writing.  In this, a candidate needs to find out the most striking feature from the provided graph or the most noticeable change given in the graph. Hence, the approach for deciding what to write in overall demands the candidate to be highly analytical.

What phrases can be used to start the overview:

  • Tense to be used in overall should be as per the time period given in the illustration. Say if the data corresponds to the year 1950, tense would be past.
  • If the provided illustration describes any process, it's tense ought to be PRESENT PASSIVE overall can be written as ALL THE MENTIONED STEPS IN THE PROCESS ARE REQUIRED TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE SAME SEQUENTIAL MANNER IN ORDER TO OBTAIN DESIRABLE RESULTS.

INTRODUCTION: The bar graph enlists ten rice yielding nations globally and the quantity of rice produced in thousand tons.

BP-1: It can be explicitly observed from the graph that china produced the highest quantity of rice over 140,000 tons followed by India which yielded more than 100,000 tons. Interestingly, Indonesia and Bangladesh grew the same quantity of rice being 35 million tons but this quantity was relatively far less than the former two countries.

BP-2: The chart further demonstrates that China and India cumulatively produced far more rice than the rest countries did. Vietnam's production stood at 28 million tons, which was almost half of Indonesia's production. Each country- Thailand, Burma, Brazil, Philippines, and Japan yielded less than 20 million tons, wherein Thailand's production was higher than in subsequent countries. 

OVERALL: From the overall analysis, it can be inferred that China was the largest producer of rice, while Japan was accounted for the least production.
